Project Overview

These architectural photographs were commissioned by Seger Architects to capture the renovated mixed-use industrial facility at 1 Jefferson Ave in Salem, MA. The series emphasizes the structure’s functional design and material contrast—juxtaposing corrugated red metal with muted horizontal siding—while drawing out the rhythm of the large industrial bay doors under a dramatic New England sky. Shot during golden hour, the images utilize natural light to highlight the architectural lines and color transitions, giving the structure a strong yet inviting presence.

By blending wide-angle perspectives with carefully composed vignettes, I aimed to tell a visual story of the building’s adaptive reuse and its integration into the urban fabric. These photographs not only document the revitalized facade and clean industrial geometry but also position the property in context—capturing the street view, access points, and subtle design decisions that contribute to its character. This project exemplifies my approach to architectural photography: balancing accuracy, atmosphere, and storytelling to support my client’s design intent and project vision.

The How

For this shoot, I chose to photograph during the late afternoon golden hour to take full advantage of the warm, directional light. This time of day not only enhanced the warm tones of the red metal siding and neutral grays but also added dimensionality through shadows and reflections on the large bay doors. The shifting light allowed me to capture the building in a way that emphasized both its structure and atmosphere, giving the images a cinematic quality that aligns with the industrial yet polished aesthetic Seger Architects envisioned. All images were captured using a Canon EOS R paired with a 24-70mm lens, which provided the flexibility to shoot both wide environmental compositions and tighter, more detailed frames. I used low-to-mid angles to exaggerate the height of the bays and roofline while maintaining straight verticals to preserve architectural accuracy. From street-level views to dynamic corner shots, each angle was chosen to provide visual variety while respecting the geometry and symmetry of the structure

Chosen to maximize warm natural light and highlight texture and architectural detail.

Offered the range and clarity needed for both environmental and detail shots.

Used low angles and wide compositions to convey scale and modern industrial character.
